Press Release

16.09.2008

“We condemn the abduction and murder of the three Al-Sharqiya TV local journalists and their
driver in the city Mosul, and we call for a thorough investigation into this cowardly evil act this
week.” Said Jabbar Hasan of Iraqi Association in London.

“This follows a pattern of horrendous intimidation and continuing assassination against local
journalists and media workers. Recently, in the city of Kirkuk, a young Kurdish journalist, Soran
Hama, was also murdered mysteriously.” Said Jabbar Hasan.

The death of the three al-Sharqiya TV journalists raised the number of journalists killed in Iraq
since March 2003 to 135, and the number of media workers to 51. The vast majority of those killed
have been Iraqi nationals. So far no one has ever been convicted for the murder of a journalist in
Iraq.
We utterly condemn these atrocities, and we condemn those responsible. Our thoughts and
prayers are with the families and friends of those who have been killed.
